The biggest Guan Gong statue in the world
Recently, the Shanxi provincial government in China has completed a project to build the biggest Guan Gong statue in the world at the birthplace of General Guan - Chang Ping village near Yuncheng city. This is to commemorate the deity and also to promote tourism. The bronze statue is 61m tall, symbolizing the age when Guan Gong passed away and the platform is 19m tall, symbolizing the age when he left his home town. Over 500 tons of copper, 2,000 tons of steel and 18,000 tons of earth were used to build this statue.
Indeed, of all the guardian deities in Buddhism, only Guan Gong enjoys such high respect and has such a giant statue built in his honor. Again, this is an eternal testament to the traditional values of loyalty, courage, humanity and righteousness, represented by Guan Gong. Even though the Chinese government build large monuments like these to attract the tourist dollar rather than promoting traditional values, they still serve to inspire all people who look upon them in one way or another. The Guan Gong monument park will be officially opened on Sep 13th 2010.

Egyptian Anubis Amulet for Guidance Silver-Tone Pewter Pendant Necklace
Enchanting English-Made Pewter and Gold Overlay make the Egyptian Anubis Pendant a Delightful Gift for Anyone!
Pendant is 1 & 3/8" tall x 1" wide and comes with a 18" chain in a Beautiful Gift Box! The bottom of the box has information on the meaning of this pendant. This Egyptian Pendant gives Guidance on Life's Journey to the wearer.
I made the mistake of buying this for $40 from another site. It's a great item, made to last (though the gold can rub off the edges a bit), and the pewter's also lead-free- another perk.
This is one of the best Anubis pendants I've seen, and I've worn mine daily for well over a year and a half now, and it's in relatively good condition. Word of warning- don't drop pink sherbet on it by accident; I can't get the sherbet spill off, so the ankh is pink! ;)
Where the jump ring connects to the pendant is very weak. My jeweler had to strengthen it before it could be worn. Other than that it was a wonderful addition to my collection. The seller was very prompt in shipping.

Amulet World : Introduction
An amulet, a close cousin of the talisman, consists of any object intended to bring good luck and/or protection to its owner. Potential amulets include: gems, especially engraved gems, statues, coins, drawings, pendants, rings, plants, animals, etc.
Talismans in the Abrahamic religions
In antiquity and the Middle Ages, most Jews, Christians and Muslims in the Orient believed in the protective and healing power of amulets or blessed objects. Talismans used by these peoples can be broken down into three main categories. The first are the types carried or worn on the body. The second version of a talisman is one which is hung upon or above the bed of an infirm person. The last classification of talisman is one with medicinal qualities. This latter category of item can be further divided into external and internal. In the former, one could, for example, place an amulet in a bath. The power of the amulet would be understood to be transmitted to the water, and thus to the bather. In the latter, inscriptions would be written or inscribed onto food, which was then boiled. The resulting broth, when consumed, was assumed to transfer the healing qualities engraved on the food into the consumer.
Jews, Christians, and Muslims have also at times used their holy books in a talisman-like manner in grave situations. For example, a bed-ridden and seriously ill person would have a holy book placed under part of the bed or cushion.
